No seriously, what's wrong with people? I hate " new" costumers, they are always incredibly posh and the talk like they are going to teach us what is a corset. They " know", dear me, and of course, us, who have done corsets and clothes twice longer, we don' t! I would never have dare do that when I was a wannabe costumer. Whatever was my opinion, I was keeping it for me, because I was afraid I would say a nonsense.
I posted a picture of koshka' s robe de cour on Facebook, and because the iPhone doesn't accept to let me see FB now, I can't answer to people : they are saying all kind of terrible thing about kat without knowing her and her work, and speaking like they know better than THE ONLY PERSON OUT THERE who has done a court dress : " the waist is not thin enough, and it's too high, and the panniers are too large, and oh my god the fabric is atrocious, and you never copy a fashion plate, and I hope she' s not using poly, and blah blah blah". Sweetheart? ... SHUT UP! You're saying stupidities. The only thing on that dress that could be considered unperiod are the marabout feathers, and yet, you keep calling it swan because you' re just an ignorant PRISSY!
Could someone who speak French go on my FB and virtually slap them for me? [livejournal.com profile] green_martha, please ?

I saw that! I can't write French, but I read enough of it to understand what was written. Incredibly rude! But I can go tehre and say how fabulous I think it is in English!

Me too -- I'd like to see what they've done that's equally impressive??

I'll do that, but during my lunch break, I can't access FB via the work computer. (it's banned)
Anythin in particular you would like to have mentioned?

I get the gist of what you wrote, but would you mind translating it here?

!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to go virtually slap them but I don't speak or write French at all, and the ignorant tend to be most unlikely to accept any kind of criticism.

You would think that they would understand that since you posted the photo, that you know Koshka. I'm surprised people on FB are talking "smack" about someone who you actually know!
I can't wait until someone gets a chance to tell them how wrong, foolish, and rude they are!

Sigh. People. I wonder if they knew that I'd be notified for each comment and be able to muddle through?

Please don't feel bad though.

I just hate the know it all vibe. I love the part about the corset not being tight enough and the hoops too big. Um. Court hoops weren't proportional! And I'm not lacing my exactly copied from an original size with no sizing done 1780s stays any tighter. So there! Also, my hips are there. I can't go any longer waisted!

I'll give you that the intent of the dress was most likely fur, not inexpensive feather boas, but well, I don't do fur and it seemed a good, fluffy compromise :)

And that is so silk. In fact, it's the most expensive silk taffeta I've ever used, just to get that green.

No, it's not a very tasteful dress, but that's in large part what drew me to it! It was so much fun to wear, and hope that I can wear it again. Court dresses really seem to bring out the worst in people--I had quite a few nasty responses to the last one too. Although, that was on YouTube, so I'm not sure they count :)

I know that it's much easier to remember the negatives one hear, but please ignore them! Count all the praise instead!

I would say that the comment about waist size shows a certain ignorance of how stays work. Like the fatc that their main purpose was to give shape and that even if a small waist was admired, it really wasn't as important than in the 19th century. Well, you know all that, I know... ANd really, if one studies portraits, people don't seem to be particulary tightly laced.

Not proportional pannier... Perhaps they should take a look at the court gowns in Sweden. Those panniers are way out of "proportion".

I love that you make gowns that are rarely done! I love all your research and the quality of your work!

Well I for one love your dress(es), I wasn't under the impression your panniers were the wrong size, I've seen panniers big enough to serve a buffet on...extant garments mostly court dresses. I could never pull off that coulour combination, but it does look like so much fun to wear.

I haven't seen the reproduction, nor am I familiar with the original, but I have to say that some of the extant gowns I saw on my recent trip to the V&A would have trouble walking in through a double garage door! Wider than they are high by quite a long way...

I'd love to see pics of Koshka's gown: her work is always amazing.
