No seriously, what's wrong with people? I hate " new" costumers, they are always incredibly posh and the talk like they are going to teach us what is a corset. They " know", dear me, and of course, us, who have done corsets and clothes twice longer, we don' t! I would never have dare do that when I was a wannabe costumer. Whatever was my opinion, I was keeping it for me, because I was afraid I would say a nonsense.
I posted a picture of koshka' s robe de cour on Facebook, and because the iPhone doesn't accept to let me see FB now, I can't answer to people : they are saying all kind of terrible thing about kat without knowing her and her work, and speaking like they know better than THE ONLY PERSON OUT THERE who has done a court dress : " the waist is not thin enough, and it's too high, and the panniers are too large, and oh my god the fabric is atrocious, and you never copy a fashion plate, and I hope she' s not using poly, and blah blah blah". Sweetheart? ... SHUT UP! You're saying stupidities. The only thing on that dress that could be considered unperiod are the marabout feathers, and yet, you keep calling it swan because you' re just an ignorant PRISSY!
Could someone who speak French go on my FB and virtually slap them for me?
green_martha, please ?

I just hate the know it all vibe. I love the part about the corset not being tight enough and the hoops too big. Um. Court hoops weren't proportional! And I'm not lacing my exactly copied from an original size with no sizing done 1780s stays any tighter. So there! Also, my hips are there. I can't go any longer waisted!
I'll give you that the intent of the dress was most likely fur, not inexpensive feather boas, but well, I don't do fur and it seemed a good, fluffy compromise :)
And that is so silk. In fact, it's the most expensive silk taffeta I've ever used, just to get that green.
No, it's not a very tasteful dress, but that's in large part what drew me to it! It was so much fun to wear, and hope that I can wear it again. Court dresses really seem to bring out the worst in people--I had quite a few nasty responses to the last one too. Although, that was on YouTube, so I'm not sure they count :)

Date: 2010-08-13 09:08 pm (UTC)From:I would say that the comment about waist size shows a certain ignorance of how stays work. Like the fatc that their main purpose was to give shape and that even if a small waist was admired, it really wasn't as important than in the 19th century. Well, you know all that, I know... ANd really, if one studies portraits, people don't seem to be particulary tightly laced.
Not proportional pannier... Perhaps they should take a look at the court gowns in Sweden. Those panniers are way out of "proportion".
I love that you make gowns that are rarely done! I love all your research and the quality of your work!

Date: 2010-08-13 09:40 pm (UTC)From:Love that part. The girl herself never look corseted, or barely, when she's in 18th costumes :)
And as MadameKat says, she could have thought that I knew you : even if only through internet, I have known you for years ! I find it terrible that she insulted someone I know like that and didn't care that, as a friend of mine, you would see the comments.
I like you dress. I loved the first madly. I can understand that some people don't like it, but saying that is enough. Going on and on against it is sooooo much rude, tasteless and just plain stupid !
