Well, I still have my eyes on the mauve fabric, but as it is some sort of dévoré vevet, I'm afraid it would be heavy and very unperiod, so I went shopping, and I fall totally in love with this fabric :

It's 100 per cent silk. Original is a lot less shiny, but colors are true. My only fear is that, although it's period, it maybe doesn't ring evening dress to every one. The idea is to have a crinoline evening gown, between this one and this one, with that kind of bertha. I also want the seams piped. Do you think it would work, or just hurt the eye ?

I only took a meter of it to try doing a bodice, as is a little bit expensive for me (but not really expensive, actually).

It looks good and I think it could do really nice as an evening gown! I think it all depends on the way you make the dress. But if you do the bodice out of this material, what will skirt be in?

It's a lovely fabric- I don't know enough of the period to say it would work or not, but I like it!
