It opens today, so of course I was there and OMYGOD !!!!!!!!! You have to see it. If you happens to come in Paris or in Europe, really this is a must, and you must not miss it. The exhibit is huge, and the pieces are really really wonderful. Not only dresses, but also cosmetics, and period movies of Haute-Couture presentation (Were the women fat in those years !).

I have an overdose of silk crape, beads, and embroideries, but this I can manage.

I'm SO going to see that exhibit several times.

The book is really a must too. It's probably the biggest exhibit catalogue made by the galliera museum. I saw it at the museum, but i haven't buy it yet (39€, a bit expensive for my october budget). I think it's not officially out, cause I can find it on Amazon.

There is still a but, but it tiny tiny tiny.

There is the Vionnet dress from "Patterns of Fashion" in the exhibit, the dress [livejournal.com profile] koshka_the_cat reproduced, and unfortunately, because I really love that dress, it is not as pretty as it should be : it's hanging on the mannequin without a belt, and it obviously not made to be worn without it. I know the original one is missing, but they should have done a new one for the presentation. The main problem is that there is a lot of weight on the bodice's seams, and first, they don't look in very good state (from what I saw through the glass), and second it kinda stresses the joins in fabric in the front bodice pieces (look at the pattern in Janet Arnold's, because the sketch itself doesn't show this seams), and well they are ugly, this joins.
So I'm a bit disapointed about this, because I was jumping like a little girl when I realise the dress was there, but I DO nibble. The rest of the exhibit is PERFECT.
