I decide to create a Costume Meme, for the fun :)

1 What is your favorite costume era ?
All of them, honestly, but I must say that bustle is the era that have my heart beat faster when I found some pretty pretty dress on Ebay...

2 What is the part of the costuming process (research, sewing, etc) that you hate the most ?
Cutting ! Cuting cutting cutting. If I'd listen to my inner dislike, I would never have been a costumer, because for years, I never pass the horrible process of cutting my fabrics.
Also, making a toile for a corset is evil, bah !!
After that, there is always that little annoying things like fitting a back closing bodice when your alone, or levelling a hem when your still alone, etc...

3 What is the part of the costuming process (research, sewing, etc) that you love the most ?
I'm really into handsewing. Machine sewing is so 20th century, beurk beurk beurk. I try to use my machine only for toiles.

4 What kind of detail in a dress immediately catch your eye ?
Pipping !! And pleats.

5 What dress (painting, museum item, etc.) started your love for costuming ? When ?
This dress from the V&A. I saw it at the museum when I was 8, and I immediately fall in love with it. My mother had to drag me out of the exhibition !!
Now, I found it a bit (sic) too much, but I love it nonetheles : ah, court dresses...

6 What costume are you sure you would never do ?
One of this 16th century venetian courtesan gown. Everyone has done one, and I find them so very common ! Of course, there are exception, like this one, but actually, I don't really like the dress, I'm just made about the sleeves !

7 How many projects do you have ? Count them all, not just the real planned projects, but also your dreamed ones.
I made a count some time ago : I think it was around 270-300 !!

8 What was your very very first costuming try ? It could be a barely begin project.
A regency spencer in copper velvet. I made the pattern, bought the fabric, began to cut the fabric, hated the way I was cutting that poor velvet, put it in my drawer for later, and the fairies stole it. Or my mother put it somewhere else and never remembered moving it.

9 What costume do you madly love, but don't feel able to do ?
As I research perfection when I'm copying a costume, there are many costumes I know I will never be able to really reproduce, but the SW III Peacock costume, whith all it's pleats, embroideries, and impossible-to-find-velvet, is probably the greatest challenge of all.

10 Which of your follow costumers do you admire the most ? Why ?
Easy. It's [livejournal.com profile] koshka_the_cat. Not only is she talented, but she also have a really good sense of historical fashion, she never ever make anachronism, she did not indulge in easiness (she handsews everything, damn !), she has the period (all periods) stature which give a real look of authenticity to her dresses, and she has a wonderfull sense of the colors thar could even make me love pink !

I'm sorry... I'm really cranky without my coffee first thing in the morning. No harm done! :)
