Okay, I'm not pretentious, but the first book I have around me is a biography of Marie-Antoinette I'm reading and the sentence is just... perfect (and in french) : the introduction of Madame du Barry, last mistress of Louis the Fifteen.

Marie-Antoinette l'insoumise by Simone Bertière. I recommand it warmly to anyone who wants a good, serious and still highly entertaining biography of Marie-Antoinette. I don't know if it has been translated : probably not... Shame...
