I've always been very sceptic about all this back-lacing closing on 18th bodices in movies because I've never seen any reamaining exemples of it but actually IT'S PERIOD !!

I suppose I'll have to stop scoffing at those movie costumes, too! However, I still think they use it far too often. Wouldn't a back-lacing gown indicate you have a servant to lace you up?

I actually think that's a remade bodice. There's certainly an obvious seamline center-front that very well could have been the closure at one point.

The back lacing just wouldn't work with the 18c style of dress. I'm sticking with Avril Hart, Sally Queen, and Williamsburg on this one.
