Are you checking out places like Travelocity and Cheaptickets? Also, check the student travel boards, they have great prices to the US.
LA is on the other side of the US, so it would cost more travel from Europe as opposed traveling to the east coast. Try getting a flight into Botson, New Jersey or New York then get cheaper flight to LA.
